This is the identification of classical and weak directional derivatives.

Let EEE be a finite-dimensional real inner-product space with measurable and Borel structures, let f:E→Rf:E\to\mathbb Rf:E→R be C1C^1C1, and fix v∈Ev\in Ev∈E. Then fderiv ℝ f x v is a weak derivative of fff along vvv:

Dvweakf(x)=Df(x)v.D_v^{\mathrm{weak}}f(x)=Df(x)v.Dvweakf(x)=Df(x)v.

In Lean this is expressed as HasWeakDerivAlong f (fun x => fderiv ℝ f x v) v. The result includes the local integrability conditions required by the weak derivative interface.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
