This is a weak-derivative form of the almost-everywhere differentiability theorem for Lipschitz functions.

Let EEE be a finite-dimensional real inner-product space, let f:E→Rf:E\to\mathbb Rf:E→R, and let L∈[0,∞)L\in[0,\infty)L∈[0,∞) be a Lipschitz constant. If fff is LLL-Lipschitz, then for every direction v∈Ev\in Ev∈E, the function

x⟼Df(x)[v]x\longmapsto Df(x)[v]x⟼Df(x)[v]

with fderiv interpreted pointwise is a weak derivative of fff in direction vvv. Equivalently, it satisfies the weak directional integration-by-parts identity against the test functions occurring in HasWeakDerivAlong.

The result provides the weak derivative interface needed to use Rademacher derivatives in integration-by-parts arguments.

Formalization Note. The conclusion is the predicate HasWeakDerivAlong; the derivative is the pointwise Fréchet derivative, and the identification is understood in the almost-everywhere sense with respect to volume measure.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
