This bounds the covariance relaxation by the covariance operator norm times the Lipschitz-gradient relaxation.

Let VVV be a finite-dimensional complete real inner-product space with its Borel measurable structure, let ν\nuν be a probability measure, and let mmm be an additive Haar measure. Assume that ν≪m\nu\ll mν≪m and that the frontier of the support of ν\nuν has ν\nuν-measure zero. For any f∈L2(ν)f\in L^2(\nu)f∈L2(ν) whose Lipschitz-gradient relaxation is finite,

relaxation⁡Cov(ν)(f)≤∥Cov⁡(ν)∥+ relaxation⁡Lip(ν,m)(f).\operatorname{relaxation}_{\mathrm{Cov}}(\nu)(f) \le \left\|\operatorname{Cov}(\nu)\right\|_{+}\, \operatorname{relaxation}_{\mathrm{Lip}}(\nu,m)(f).relaxationCov(ν)(f)≤∥Cov(ν)∥+relaxationLip(ν,m)(f).

Here ∥Cov⁡(ν)∥+\|\operatorname{Cov}(\nu)\|_{+}∥Cov(ν)∥+ is the nonnegative norm value coerced to [0,∞][0,\infty][0,∞].

This is an energy comparison, not an assertion that either relaxation is finite or that a Poincaré inequality holds.

Formalization Note The inequality is in ENNReal; the finiteness assumption is precisely that the Lipschitz relaxation is not top.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
