This statement identifies two fixed-constant formulations of the smooth-gradient Poincaré inequality.

Let EEE be a finite-dimensional complete real inner product space with its Borel measurable structure and a second-countable topology. Let μ\muμ be any probability measure on EEE and C∈[0,∞)C\in[0,\infty)C∈[0,∞). Let Tμ\mathcal T_\muTμ be the test family Poincare.TestFamily.ofPreEnergy μ (Energy.SmoothGradient.preEnergy μ).

Then

SmoothTest.Holds⁡(μ,C)⟺TestFamily.Holds⁡(Tμ,C).\operatorname{SmoothTest.Holds}(\mu,C) \quad\Longleftrightarrow\quad \operatorname{TestFamily.Holds}(\mathcal T_\mu,C).SmoothTest.Holds(μ,C)⟺TestFamily.Holds(Tμ,C).

The left side is Poincare.SmoothTest.Holds: variance is at most C∫∥∇f∥2 dμC\int\|\nabla f\|^2\,d\muC∫∥∇f∥2dμ for every C∞C^\inftyC∞ function f∈L2(μ)f\in L^2(\mu)f∈L2(μ) with integrable squared gradient. The right side is the corresponding inequality on the concrete pre-energy test family.

This equivalence connects the concrete smooth-test formulation to the test-family interface, without asserting an identification with a relaxed or literature constant.

Formalization Note CCC is NNReal and is coerced to R\mathbb RR on the left. No moment, log-concavity, density, or positive-dimension assumption is imposed on μ\muμ.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
