This proves equality of the operator norms of the ambient and intrinsic covariance operators.

Let EEE be a complete, finite-dimensional, second-countable real inner-product space with its Borel measurable structure, and let μ\muμ be a probability measure on EEE with finite second moment. If VVV is the direction of the affine support of μ\muμ, then

∥Cov⁡(intrinsicMeasure⁡(μ))∥=∥Cov⁡(μ)∥.\left\|\operatorname{Cov}(\operatorname{intrinsicMeasure}(\mu))\right\| = \left\|\operatorname{Cov}(\mu)\right\|.∥Cov(intrinsicMeasure(μ))∥=∥Cov(μ)∥.

The intrinsic operator acts on VVV, while the ambient operator acts on EEE.

This equality allows operator-norm estimates to be transferred between intrinsic and ambient formulations.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
