This is the pointwise Cauchy–Schwarz estimate for convolution with a normalized smooth bump.

Let VVV be a finite-dimensional real inner-product space, let mmm be an additive Haar measure on VVV, and let EEE be a normed real vector space. Let φ\varphiφ be a smooth bump centered at 000, and let f:V→Ef:V\to Ef:V→E be almost everywhere strongly measurable with respect to mmm. For every x∈Vx\in Vx∈V,

∥(φnormed∗f)(x)∥e2≤∫VofReal⁡(φnormed(t)) ∥f(x−t)∥e2 dm(t).\left\|(\varphi_{\mathrm{normed}}\ast f)(x)\right\|_e^2 \le \int_V \operatorname{ofReal}(\varphi_{\mathrm{normed}}(t))\,\|f(x-t)\|_e^2\,dm(t).∥(φnormed∗f)(x)∥e2≤∫VofReal(φnormed(t))∥f(x−t)∥e2dm(t).

The quantity ∥⋅∥e\|\cdot\|_e∥⋅∥e is the extended norm with values in [0,∞][0,\infty][0,∞]. This pointwise estimate is the local ingredient for L2L^2L2 contraction bounds.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
