This statement is a parameterized Young inequality in [0,∞][0,\infty][0,∞].

Let θ∈[0,∞)\theta\in[0,\infty)θ∈[0,∞) satisfy 0<θ0<\theta0<θ, and let x,y∈[0,∞]x,y\in[0,\infty]x,y∈[0,∞] be ENNReal values. Then

(x+y)2≤(1+θ)x2+(1+θ−1)y2.(x+y)^2 \leq (1+\theta)x^2+(1+\theta^{-1})y^2.(x+y)2≤(1+θ)x2+(1+θ−1)y2.

The inequality remains valid when x=∞x=\inftyx=∞ or y=∞y=\inftyy=∞; the inverse is the ENNReal inverse of the positive parameter. This auxiliary estimate is used to separate a principal local-slope term from a cutoff-error term.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
