This is an exact generator identity for the standard trace of the inverse posterior covariance.

Let μ\muμ be a probability measure on Rn≃EuclideanSpace⁡(R,Fin⁡(n))\mathbb{R}^n\simeq\operatorname{EuclideanSpace}(\mathbb{R},\operatorname{Fin}(n))Rn≃EuclideanSpace(R,Fin(n)) with compact support, and assume that μ\muμ is isotropic. For a localization parameter ppp, let A(p)=cov⁡(μ,p)A(p)=\operatorname{cov}(\mu,p)A(p)=cov(μ,p), let Hk=DcA(p)[noise⁡(μ,p,k)]H_k=D_cA(p)[\operatorname{noise}(\mu,p,k)]Hk=DcA(p)[noise(μ,p,k)], and let S=A(p)−1/2S=A(p)^{-1/2}S=A(p)−1/2. Then

L ⁣[tr⁡(A−1)](p)=tr⁡(A(p)−1)+∑k∑i∥S Hk S(Sei)∥2,\mathcal L\!\left[\operatorname{tr}(A^{-1})\right](p) =\operatorname{tr}(A(p)^{-1}) +\sum_k\sum_i \left\|S\,H_k\,S\bigl(S e_i\bigr)\right\|^2,L[tr(A−1)](p)=tr(A(p)−1)+k∑i∑SHkS(Sei)2,

where the sums range over k,i∈Fin⁡(n)k,i\in\operatorname{Fin}(n)k,i∈Fin(n) and eie_iei is the Euclidean coordinate basis. Here generator, cov, stdTrace, inverseSqrt, and noise are the formalized constructions.

This identity is the exact second-order calculus used to bound the Lyapunov generator in the localization argument.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
