This is a pointwise domination estimate for translated directional derivatives.

Let VVV be a real inner-product space, let ϕ:V→R\phi:V\to\mathbb Rϕ:V→R, let M∈RM\in\mathbb RM∈R, let h:V→Rh:V\to\mathbb Rh:V→R, let v∈Vv\in Vv∈V, and let s,t∈Rs,t\in\mathbb Rs,t∈R satisfy

∣s−t∣<1.|s-t|<1.∣s−t∣<1.

Assume that the Fréchet derivative of ϕ\phiϕ is uniformly bounded:

∥Dϕ(y)∥≤Mfor every y∈V.\|D\phi(y)\|\le M\qquad\text{for every }y\in V.∥Dϕ(y)∥≤Mfor every y∈V.

Then for every x∈Vx\in Vx∈V,

∥h(x)Dϕ(x−sv)v∥≤1cthickening⁡((∣t∣+1)∥v∥,tsupport⁡(ϕ))(x) ∣h(x)∣M∥v∥.\left\|h(x)D\phi(x-sv)v\right\| \le \mathbf 1_{\operatorname{cthickening}((|t|+1)\|v\|,\operatorname{tsupport}(\phi))}(x) \,|h(x)|M\|v\|.∥h(x)Dϕ(x−sv)v∥≤1cthickening((∣t∣+1)∥v∥,tsupport(ϕ))(x)∣h(x)∣M∥v∥.

The estimate localizes the translated derivative to a thickening of the topological support of ϕ\phiϕ and is used for dominated differentiation under an integral.

Formalization Note The right-hand side is a set indicator; outside the thickening the derivative is forced to vanish by the support condition.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
