This is a pointwise second-derivative identity for the drift term in the local Bochner calculation.

Let EEE be a complete finite-dimensional real inner-product space, let U,f:E→RU,f:E\to\mathbb RU,f:E→R be respectively C2C^2C2, and let x∈Ex\in Ex∈E. Write eie_iei for the fixed standard orthonormal basis of EEE. Then

⟨∇f(x),∇⟨∇U,∇f⟩(x)⟩=D2U(x)(∇f(x),∇f(x))+∑i∑j∂iU(x) ∂jf(x) D2f(x)(ei,ej).\left\langle \nabla f(x),\nabla\langle\nabla U,\nabla f\rangle(x)\right\rangle = D^2U(x)(\nabla f(x),\nabla f(x)) +\sum_i\sum_j \partial_iU(x)\,\partial_jf(x)\,D^2f(x)(e_i,e_j).⟨∇f(x),∇⟨∇U,∇f⟩(x)⟩=D2U(x)(∇f(x),∇f(x))+i∑j∑∂iU(x)∂jf(x)D2f(x)(ei,ej).

The Hessian is represented by bilinearIteratedFDerivTwo, and the sums use stdOrthonormalBasis ℝ E. This technical identity is reusable in pointwise Bochner expansions.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
