This statement gives the first two moments of a normalized sum under a finite product measure.

Let μ\muμ be a probability measure on a measurable space EEE, and let f:E→Rf:E\to\mathbb Rf:E→R satisfy f∈L2(μ)f\in L^2(\mu)f∈L2(μ),

∫f dμ=0,∫f2 dμ=1.\int f\,d\mu=0,\qquad \int f^2\,d\mu=1.∫fdμ=0,∫f2dμ=1.

For every integer N>0N>0N>0, the function on EFin⁡NE^{\operatorname{Fin}N}EFinN defined by

SN(x)=∑i=1Nf(xi)NS_N(x)=\frac{\sum_{i=1}^N f(x_i)}{\sqrt N}SN(x)=N∑i=1Nf(xi)

is in L2(μ⊗N)L^2(\mu^{\otimes N})L2(μ⊗N) and satisfies

∫SN dμ⊗N=0,∫SN2 dμ⊗N=1.\int S_N\,d\mu^{\otimes N}=0, \qquad \int S_N^2\,d\mu^{\otimes N}=1.∫SNdμ⊗N=0,∫SN2dμ⊗N=1.

This is the standard moment calculation for normalized independent copies and is used to establish isotropy of suspension coordinates.

Formalization Note. The conclusion includes an explicit MemLp witness; the product measure is Measure.pi and N>0N>0N>0 is required.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
