This statement gives orthogonality of the designated affine residual to every linear function.

Let n∈Nn\in\mathbb Nn∈N, E=E=E= EuclideanSpace ℝ (Fin n), and (ej)j∈Fin⁡(n)(e_j)_{j\in\operatorname{Fin}(n)}(ej)j∈Fin(n) its standard orthonormal basis. Assume:

  1. μ\muμ is a probability measure and id⁡∈L2(μ)\operatorname{id}\in L^2(\mu)id∈L2(μ).
  2. ∫x dμ(x)=0\int x\,d\mu(x)=0∫xdμ(x)=0.
  3. For all u,v∈Eu,v\in Eu,v∈E, ∫⟨u,x⟩⟨v,x⟩ dμ(x)=⟨u,v⟩\int\langle u,x\rangle\langle v,x\rangle\,d\mu(x)=\langle u,v\rangle∫⟨u,x⟩⟨v,x⟩dμ(x)=⟨u,v⟩.
  4. g:E→Rg:E\to\mathbb Rg:E→R belongs to L2(μ)L^2(\mu)L2(μ).

Set h=h=h= L2.affineOrthPart μ g, explicitly

h(x)=g(x)−∫g dμ−∑j(∫⟨ej,y⟩g(y) dμ(y))⟨ej,x⟩.h(x)=g(x)-\int g\,d\mu-\sum_j\left(\int\langle e_j,y\rangle g(y)\,d\mu(y)\right)\langle e_j,x\rangle.h(x)=g(x)−∫gdμ−j∑(∫⟨ej,y⟩g(y)dμ(y))⟨ej,x⟩.

For every u∈Eu\in Eu∈E,

∫⟨u,x⟩h(x) dμ(x)=0.\int\langle u,x\rangle h(x)\,d\mu(x)=0.∫⟨u,x⟩h(x)dμ(x)=0.

This is the linear orthogonality property of the affine decomposition under centered identity-covariance moment assumptions. The L2L^2L2 assumptions are MemLp conditions, and no restriction n>0n>0n>0 is imposed.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
