Let ι\iotaι be a linearly ordered type and let mim_imi be sigma-algebras on a probability space (Ω,P)(\Omega,P)(Ω,P). If, for every i∈ιi\in\iotai∈ι, the sigma-algebra generated by all strict predecessors is independent of mim_imi,

(⋁j<imj)⊥mi,\left(\bigvee_{j<i}m_j\right)\perp m_i,(j<i⋁mj)⊥mi,

then the family (mi)i∈ι(m_i)_{i\in\iota}(mi)i∈ι is mutually independent:

iIndep⁡(mi)i∈ι P.\operatorname{iIndep}(m_i)_{i\in\iota}\,P.iIndep(mi)i∈ιP.

This is a general chain criterion for mutual independence and is used to organize Brownian increment independence.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
