This is a generic gluing theorem for weak derivatives.

Let EEE be a finite-dimensional real inner-product normed space with its Borel measurable structure, and let f:E→Rf:E\to\mathbb Rf:E→R. Assume:

  1. for every compact set SSS, the restriction of fff to SSS belongs to L2L^2L2 with respect to restricted volume;
  2. for every C1C^1C1 compactly supported cutoff χ\chiχ, there is a globally L2L^2L2 function gχg_\chigχ such that χf\chi fχf has weak derivative gχg_\chigχ along a fixed vector vvv.

Then there exists g:E→Rg:E\to\mathbb Rg:E→R such that ggg is a weak derivative of fff along vvv, and for every compact SSS, ggg belongs to L2L^2L2 with respect to volume restricted to SSS.

The conclusion is local L2L^2L2 regularity of the derivative rather than global L2L^2L2 regularity. It provides a cutoff-gluing interface for weak derivative constructions.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
