Let N,q,r,n∈NN,q,r,n\in\mathbb NN,q,r,n∈N with N=q+rN=q+rN=q+r, let AAA be an NNN-index coordinate tensor over an nnn-element coordinate space, and let J:Fin(N)→Fin(n)J:\mathrm{Fin}(N)\to\mathrm{Fin}(n)J:Fin(N)→Fin(n). Then the entry of the symmetrization over the first qqq positions is the average over permutations of those positions, while the last rrr positions remain fixed:

SqA(J)=1q!∑τ∈Perm⁡(q)A(J∘(τ on the first q slots)  followed by J on the last r slots).S_qA(J)=\frac1{q!}\sum_{\tau\in\operatorname{Perm}(q)} A\bigl(J\circ(\tau\text{ on the first }q\text{ slots})\,\text{ followed by }J\text{ on the last }r\text{ slots}\bigr).SqA(J)=q!1τ∈Perm(q)∑A(J∘(τ on the first q slots) followed by J on the last r slots).

The equality includes the necessary cast from the equality N=q+rN=q+rN=q+r and is an entrywise coordinate identity. It is used to expand symmetrized Taylor fields.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
