This is a local support and halfspace lemma used in the geometric argument for Lemma 16 of Cordero–Erausquin–Klartag, Moment measures (arXiv:1304.0630v1), cited there as an alternative formulation.

Let EEE be a real inner-product normed additive group, let μ\muμ be a probability measure, and let x0,u,y∈Ex_0,u,y\in Ex0,u,y∈E. Assume that y∈supp⁡(μ)y\in\operatorname{supp}(\mu)y∈supp(μ) and

0<⟨u,y−x0⟩.0<\langle u,y-x_0\rangle.0<⟨u,y−x0⟩.

Then there exist δ>0\delta>0δ>0 and r>0r>0r>0 such that the ball B(y,r)B(y,r)B(y,r) has strictly positive μ\muμ-measure and, for every v∈Ev\in Ev∈E with ∥v−u∥<δ\|v-u\|<\delta∥v−u∥<δ and every x∈B(y,r)x\in B(y,r)x∈B(y,r),

0<⟨v,x−x0⟩.0<\langle v,x-x_0\rangle.0<⟨v,x−x0⟩.

The result supplies a positive-mass neighborhood on which nearby directions define strict open halfspaces.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
