This formalizes a weak local regularity statement associated with Theorem 2.5 of Letwin (arXiv:2607.24164v1).

For u,V:Rn→Ru,V:\mathbb{R}^n\to\mathbb{R}u,V:Rn→R, assume uuu is C1C^1C1 and convex, ∇u\nabla u∇u is globally Lipschitz, VVV is C1C^1C1 and convex, and −u+V∘∇u-u+V\circ\nabla u−u+V∘∇u is Lipschitz. Assume also that K>0K>0K>0, that almost everywhere

Hu≻0,log⁡det⁡Hu=−u+V(∇u),KI−Hu⪰0,H_u\succ0, \qquad \log\det H_u=-u+V(\nabla u), \qquad KI-H_u\succeq0,Hu≻0,logdetHu=−u+V(∇u),KI−Hu⪰0,

and that for some D∈RD\in\mathbb{R}D∈R,

u(x+h)+u(x−h)−2u(x)≤D∥h∥2u(x+h)+u(x-h)-2u(x)\le D\|h\|^2u(x+h)+u(x−h)−2u(x)≤D∥h∥2

for all x,hx,hx,h. Then there exists a tensor T(x,k,i,j)T(x,k,i,j)T(x,k,i,j) such that every Hessian entry Hu(x)ijH_u(x)_{ij}Hu(x)ij has weak derivative T(x,k,i,j)T(x,k,i,j)T(x,k,i,j) in the coordinate direction eke_kek, and each such derivative belongs locally to L2L^2L2 on every compact set. This is a technical weak-derivative conclusion and does not assert classical third derivatives.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
