This gives the Alexandrov null-set statement for repeated subgradients.

Let EEE be a finite-dimensional real inner-product space with its Borel measurable structure. Let u:E→Ru:E\to\mathbb Ru:E→R be Lipschitz and convex. Consider the set of slopes that are subgradients at two distinct points:

S={p:∃x≠y, ∀z, u(x)+⟨p,z−x⟩≤u(z),  u(y)+⟨p,z−y⟩≤u(z)}.S=\left\{p:\exists x\ne y,\ \forall z,\ u(x)+\langle p,z-x\rangle\le u(z),\ \ u(y)+\langle p,z-y\rangle\le u(z)\right\}.S={p:∃x=y, ∀z, u(x)+⟨p,z−x⟩≤u(z),  u(y)+⟨p,z−y⟩≤u(z)}.

Then its volume is zero:

vol⁡(S)=0.\operatorname{vol}(S)=0.vol(S)=0.

This is a measure-theoretic uniqueness statement for subgradients and is used in the push-forward Alexandrov identity.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
