This lemma states that subtracting the prescribed affine part preserves C2C^2C2 regularity and the second derivative.

Let n∈Nn\in\mathbb Nn∈N, E=RnE=\mathbb R^nE=Rn (EuclideanSpace ℝ (Fin n)), μ\muμ any measure on EEE, and g:E→Rg:E\to\mathbb Rg:E→R a C2C^2C2 function. For the standard orthonormal basis (ej)j∈Fin⁡n(e_j)_{j\in\operatorname{Fin}n}(ej)j∈Finn, define

g~(x)=g(x)−∫g dμ−∑j(∫⟨ej,y⟩g(y) dμ(y))⟨ej,x⟩\widetilde g(x)=g(x)-\int g\,d\mu-\sum_j\left(\int\langle e_j,y\rangle g(y)\,d\mu(y)\right)\langle e_j,x\rangleg(x)=g(x)−∫gdμ−j∑(∫⟨ej,y⟩g(y)dμ(y))⟨ej,x⟩

using affineOrthPart. Then

g~∈C2(E),∀x∈E,D(Dg~)(x)=D(Dg)(x).\widetilde g\in C^2(E),\qquad \forall x\in E,\quad D(D\widetilde g)(x)=D(Dg)(x).g∈C2(E),∀x∈E,D(Dg)(x)=D(Dg)(x).

The second derivatives here are the iterated Fréchet derivatives fderiv. This result transfers bounded-second-derivative conditions to the affine-subtracted function.

Formalization Note No probability, moment, or integrability assumptions on μ\muμ or ggg are present. The defining integrals use Lean's total Bochner integral; the lemma does not assert orthogonality under these unrestricted hypotheses.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
