This describes covariance under a continuous linear equivalence.

Let V1V_1V1 and V2V_2V2 be real inner-product spaces with Borel measurable structures, assume the required completeness and second-countability conditions on V2V_2V2, let ν\nuν be a finite measure on V1V_1V1, and let

T:V1⟶∼V2T:V_1\overset{\sim}{\longrightarrow}V_2T:V1⟶∼V2

be a continuous linear equivalence. Then the covariance operator of the pushforward measure satisfies

Cov⁡(T#ν)=T∘Cov⁡(ν)∘T∗.\operatorname{Cov}(T_\#\nu) =T\circ\operatorname{Cov}(\nu)\circ T^*.Cov(T#ν)=T∘Cov(ν)∘T∗.

No finite-second-moment assumption is required: when the relevant second moment is absent, the covariance operators are zero by the underlying convention.

The result is the operator conjugation law used for linear changes of variables.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
