This formalizes equation (60) of Cordero-Erausquin–Klartag, Moment measures (arXiv:1304.0630v1).

Let EEE be a real inner-product normed space, let ϕj:E→R‾\phi_j:E\to\overline{\mathbb R}ϕj:E→R be a sequence of extended-real functions, and let ψ:E→R‾\psi:E\to\overline{\mathbb R}ψ:E→R. Let s⊂Es\subset Es⊂E be a nonempty finite set. Assume every ψ(x)\psi(x)ψ(x) for x∈sx\in sx∈s is neither +∞+\infty+∞ nor −∞-\infty−∞, and that ϕj(x)→ψ(x)\phi_j(x)\to\psi(x)ϕj(x)→ψ(x) at each x∈sx\in sx∈s. For ε>0\varepsilon>0ε>0, eventually in jjj and for every y∈Ey\in Ey∈E,

(affineMaximum⁡(s,ψ∣stoReal,y)−ε)≤(ϕj)∗(y),\bigl(\operatorname{affineMaximum}(s,\psi_{|s}^{\mathrm{toReal}},y)-\varepsilon\bigr) \le (\phi_j)^*(y),(affineMaximum(s,ψ∣stoReal,y)−ε)≤(ϕj)∗(y),

where the left side is embedded into EReal and (ϕj)∗(\phi_j)^*(ϕj)∗ is legendre (φ j).

The statement provides a bound uniform in the dual point yyy, obtained from pointwise convergence at finitely many vertices. It is a geometric approximation tool for Legendre transforms.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
