This statement gives the Pythagorean identity for the concrete affine decomposition in L2L^2L2.

Let n∈Nn\in\mathbb Nn∈N, E=E=E= EuclideanSpace ℝ (Fin n), and (ej)(e_j)(ej) its standard orthonormal basis. Assume:

  1. μ\muμ is a probability measure and id⁡∈L2(μ)\operatorname{id}\in L^2(\mu)id∈L2(μ).
  2. ∫x dμ(x)=0\int x\,d\mu(x)=0∫xdμ(x)=0.
  3. For all u,v∈Eu,v\in Eu,v∈E, ∫⟨u,x⟩⟨v,x⟩ dμ(x)=⟨u,v⟩\int\langle u,x\rangle\langle v,x\rangle\,d\mu(x)=\langle u,v\rangle∫⟨u,x⟩⟨v,x⟩dμ(x)=⟨u,v⟩.
  4. f:E→Rf:E\to\mathbb Rf:E→R belongs to L2(μ)L^2(\mu)L2(μ).

Write c=∫f dμc=\int f\,d\muc=∫fdμ, aj=∫⟨ej,x⟩f(x) dμ(x)a_j=\int\langle e_j,x\rangle f(x)\,d\mu(x)aj=∫⟨ej,x⟩f(x)dμ(x), and h(x)=f(x)−c−∑jaj⟨ej,x⟩h(x)=f(x)-c-\sum_j a_j\langle e_j,x\rangleh(x)=f(x)−c−∑jaj⟨ej,x⟩, the residual L2.affineOrthPart μ f. Then

∫f2 dμ=c2+∑j∈Fin⁡(n)aj2+∫h2 dμ.\int f^2\,d\mu=c^2+\sum_{j\in\operatorname{Fin}(n)}a_j^2+\int h^2\,d\mu.∫f2dμ=c2+j∈Fin(n)∑aj2+∫h2dμ.

This separates the squared L2L^2L2 size into constant, linear, and residual contributions. All L2L^2L2 hypotheses are MemLp conditions, and all natural dimensions are included.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
