This computes the extended-real Legendre transform of the norm.

For every yyy in a real inner-product space,

Leg⁡(x↦∥x∥)(y)={0,∥y∥≤1,+∞,∥y∥>1.\operatorname{Leg}\bigl(x\mapsto\|x\|\bigr)(y) = \begin{cases} 0,&\|y\|\leq1,\\ +\infty,&\|y\|>1. \end{cases}Leg(x↦∥x∥)(y)={0,+∞,∥y∥≤1,∥y∥>1.

The equality is in EReal. Thus the conjugate of the norm is the indicator of the closed unit ball, with value 000 on the ball and +∞+\infty+∞ outside.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
