This statement shows that a continuous potential representing a log-concave tilted law is convex.

Let VVV be a finite-dimensional real inner-product space, let mmm be an additive Haar measure, and let ν\nuν be a log-concave probability measure. Suppose

ν=m.tilted(−U)\nu=m\mathbin{.}\mathrm{tilted}(-U)ν=m.tilted(−U)

for a continuous function U:V→RU:V\to\mathbb RU:V→R. Then UUU is convex on all of VVV:

ConvexOn⁡(R,Rn,U).\operatorname{ConvexOn}(\mathbb R,\mathbb R^n,U).ConvexOn(R,Rn,U).

Equivalently, for all x,y∈Vx,y\in Vx,y∈V and a,b≥0a,b\ge0a,b≥0 with a+b=1a+b=1a+b=1,

U(ax+by)≤aU(x)+bU(y).U(ax+by)\le aU(x)+bU(y).U(ax+by)≤aU(x)+bU(y).

The result supplies the convexity of the potential needed to obtain nonnegative curvature in the heat-model arguments.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
