This states the uniform perturbation bound for the actual extended-real Legendre transform.

Let EEE be a real inner-product space, let ϕ:E→R‾\phi:E\to\overline{\mathbb R}ϕ:E→R be a proper potential, and let b:E→Rb:E\to\mathbb Rb:E→R. If M≥0M\geq0M≥0 and ∣b(z)∣≤M|b(z)|\leq M∣b(z)∣≤M for every zzz, then for every t∈Rt\in\mathbb Rt∈R and q∈Eq\in Eq∈E,

Leg⁡(ϕ)(q)−∣t∣M≤Leg⁡(z↦ϕ(z)+tb(z))(q)≤Leg⁡(ϕ)(q)+∣t∣M.\operatorname{Leg}(\phi)(q)-|t|M \leq \operatorname{Leg}(z\mapsto\phi(z)+t b(z))(q) \leq \operatorname{Leg}(\phi)(q)+|t|M.Leg(ϕ)(q)−∣t∣M≤Leg(z↦ϕ(z)+tb(z))(q)≤Leg(ϕ)(q)+∣t∣M.

The inequalities hold in EReal, including infinite values; no convexity or global finiteness of ϕ\phiϕ is assumed. This gives a direct stability estimate for bounded perturbations of the conjugate.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
