This statement extracts ordinary real convexity from an extended-real convex epigraph.

Let EEE be a real inner-product normed additive group and let ϕ:E→R‾\phi:E\to\overline{\mathbb R}ϕ:E→R. Assume:

  1. ϕ(x)≥0\phi(x)\ge 0ϕ(x)≥0 for every x∈Ex\in Ex∈E.
  2. The real epigraph
{(x,t)∈E×R:ϕ(x)≤t}\{(x,t)\in E\times\mathbb R:\phi(x)\le t\}{(x,t)∈E×R:ϕ(x)≤t}

is convex.

Then the function x↦(ϕ(x)).toReal⁡x\mapsto(\phi(x)).\operatorname{toReal}x↦(ϕ(x)).toReal is ConvexOn on the effective domain

{x∈E:ϕ(x)≠+∞}.\{x\in E:\phi(x)\ne+\infty\}.{x∈E:ϕ(x)=+∞}.

This is a technical bridge between extended-real convex potentials and ordinary real convex-analysis results.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
