This statement identifies the action of the closed weighted gradient on a centered function.

Let VVV be a finite-dimensional real inner-product space, let ν\nuν be log-concave with nonempty support interior, and let mmm be an additive Haar measure. For any element uuu of the domain of the closed weighted operator, let center⁡νu=u−mean⁡ν(u)\operatorname{center}_\nu u=u-\operatorname{mean}_\nu(u)centerνu=u−meanν(u) denote its L2L^2L2 centering. Then

∇‾(center⁡νu)=∇‾u.\overline{\nabla}(\operatorname{center}_\nu u)=\overline{\nabla}u.∇(centerνu)=∇u.

The result records that constants are annihilated by the closed gradient and allows centered representatives to be substituted without changing their gradient energy.

Formalization Note. The centered element is accompanied by a separately constructed domain proof; equality is equality of the resulting L2(ν)L^2(\nu)L2(ν) classes.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
