This is the sigma-algebra form of the weak Markov property for Brownian motion.

Let (Ω,F,P)(\Omega,\mathcal F,P)(Ω,F,P) be a probability space, let WWW be a BrownianMotion, and let s∈Rs\in\mathbb Rs∈R satisfy 0≤s0\le s0≤s. Define the natural filtration at time sss by

FsW=⋁u≤sσ(Wu),\mathcal F_s^W=\bigvee_{u\le s}\sigma(W_u),FsW=u≤s⋁σ(Wu),

and define the future-increment sigma-algebra by

Gs+=⋁t>sσ(Wt−Ws).\mathcal G_s^+=\bigvee_{t>s}\sigma(W_t-W_s).Gs+=t>s⋁σ(Wt−Ws).

Then

FsW⊥Gs+under P.\mathcal F_s^W\perp\mathcal G_s^+\quad\text{under }P.FsW⊥Gs+under P.

The statement includes the entire natural filtration, including the almost-surely constant negative-time part, and the sigma-algebra generated jointly by all increments after sss. It is a reusable filtration-level strengthening of independence for individual Brownian increments.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
