This is a finite-dimensional Gaussian-smoothing variance estimate.

Let μ\muμ be a probability measure on E=EuclideanSpace R (Fin n)E=\mathrm{EuclideanSpace}\,\mathbb R\,(\mathrm{Fin}\,n)E=EuclideanSpaceR(Finn) such that LogConcave μ and whose affine support is the whole space. Let u:E→Ru:E\to\mathbb Ru:E→R satisfy:

  1. uuu is C1C^1C1;
  2. uuu is globally Lipschitz with constant L∈NNRealL\in\mathbb{NNReal}L∈NNReal;
  3. ∇u\nabla u∇u is globally Lipschitz with constant G∈NNRealG\in\mathbb{NNReal}G∈NNReal;
  4. ∫Ee−u(y) dy=1\int_E e^{-u(y)}\,dy=1∫Ee−u(y)dy=1;
  5. the tilted Lebesgue measure with density proportional to e−ue^{-u}e−u, pushed forward by ∇u\nabla u∇u, equals μ\muμ.

Let S:E≃ES:E\simeq ES:E≃E be a continuous linear equivalence, let Q:E→EQ:E\to EQ:E→E be continuous linear and self-adjoint, and let s>0s>0s>0. Write P=(e−u dy)⊗γsP=\bigl(e^{-u}\,dy\bigr)\otimes\gamma_sP=(e−udy)⊗γs, where γs\gamma_sγs is the Gaussian law used by gaussianLaw, and let smoothedLaw denote the corresponding Gaussian-smoothed image law. Then

Var⁡smoothedLaw⁡(μ∘S−1,s) ⁣(⟨Qx,x⟩)≤4∑i=1n∫E×E∥S ⁣(action⁡ ⁣(∇2u(p1),S∗Qei))+(2s)−1Qei∥2 dP(p).\operatorname{Var}_{\operatorname{smoothedLaw}(\mu\circ S^{-1},s)}\!\bigl(\langle Qx,x\rangle\bigr) \le 4\sum_{i=1}^{n}\int_{E\times E}\left\|S\!\left(\operatorname{action}\!\left(\nabla^2u(p_1),S^*Qe_i\right)\right)+(2s)^{-1}Qe_i\right\|^2\,dP(p).VarsmoothedLaw(μ∘S−1,s)(⟨Qx,x⟩)≤4i=1∑n∫E×ES(action(∇2u(p1),S∗Qei))+(2s)−1Qei2dP(p).

Here eie_iei is the iiith coordinate vector and the displayed right-hand side is exactly the latent product energy in the Lean statement. This provides a technical bridge from smoothed quadratic variance to Hessian-based latent energies.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
