This statement proves symmetry of the first two indices of an indexed weak Hessian.

Let VVV be finite-dimensional, let ν=m.tilted(−U)\nu=m\mathbin{.}\mathrm{tilted}(-U)ν=m.tilted(−U) with UUU of temperate growth and all exponential moments, and let hhh be a level-kkk field whose components lie in the domain of A=Tˉ†TˉA=\bar T^\dagger\bar TA=Tˉ†Tˉ. For every index map J:Fin(k+2)→Fin(dim⁡V)J:\mathrm{Fin}(k+2)\to\mathrm{Fin}(\dim V)J:Fin(k+2)→Fin(dimV), swapping the first two positions leaves the iterated gradient field unchanged:

gradField⁡(gradField⁡(h))(J∘(0  1))=gradField⁡(gradField⁡(h))(J).\operatorname{gradField}(\operatorname{gradField}(h))(J\circ(0\;1)) =\operatorname{gradField}(\operatorname{gradField}(h))(J).gradField(gradField(h))(J∘(01))=gradField(gradField(h))(J).

This is the coordinate symmetry needed to construct symmetric approximations to centered gradient fields.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
