This auxiliary statement extracts an almost optimal centered unit vector from equality of the Poincaré constant.

Let VVV, ν\nuν, and mmm satisfy the finite-dimensional heat-model assumptions, and let C>0C>0C>0 satisfy

CP(ν)=C.C_P(\nu)=C.CP(ν)=C.

For every ε>0\varepsilon>0ε>0, there exists yyy in the domain of the closed weighted gradient such that

mean⁡ν(y)=0,∥y∥=1,\operatorname{mean}_\nu(y)=0,\qquad \|y\|=1,meanν(y)=0,∥y∥=1,

and

∥∇‾y∥2≤C−1(1+ε).\|\overline{\nabla}y\|^2\le C^{-1}(1+\varepsilon).∥∇y∥2≤C−1(1+ε).

This lemma is an approximation interface for the construction of centered approximate eigenfunctions; it asserts existence, not attainment of an exact minimizer.

Formalization Note. The equality for CP(ν)C_P(\nu)CP(ν) is in ENNReal, while the norm and energy inequality use the real coercion of CCC.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
